Fabiola Pulido Barriga, Ph.D.
I am a first-generation DACA scholar and currently a postdoctoral researcher at the University of California, Irvine, in the Jen Martiny Lab.
As a first-generation DACA scholar, I am committed to increasing diversity in higher education and STEM. I actively serve on the MSA DEI committee and MSA SPORES, both of which develop and implement initiatives to support and increase representation of underrepresented individuals in mycology.
My academic path has been long and far from linear. Because of this, I understand firsthand the many challenges students face—especially the limited opportunities to gain lab experience—which can make applying to graduate school feel overwhelming. I recognize how crucial mentorship, access to research, and community support are in helping students overcome these barriers and succeed in STEM. Because of this, I am dedicated to helping undergraduate students and those interested in STEM obtain the training and experience necessary to pursue their career goals.
